Cross-Media Marketing

Remember when you opened a bottle of Coke and you knew right then and there that you won or didn't win? Now you have to go to their website and put a code in to find out. You probably have to "sign in" to put your code in as well.

Marketers have been using the power of the internet for some time and it is growing to include social media and video platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Case in point, the much hyped Old Spice Man. Look at your man, now look at me, now look at your man... LOL. The commercials were great to begin with and you can find the Old Spice Man on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube reaching out to followers and inviting them to participate in the fun.

So how do you apply this to your business? Starting simple, create offers especially for your Facebook and Twitter followers. It could be a coupon, a promotion for a specific product you are wanting to push or even a free t-shirt or other give-a-way. If you are lacking in followers try promoting the other way by giving out a coupon and something for "liking" your fan page or following you on Twitter through a retail storefront, networking event, direct mail campaign, or other old fashioned method.

YouTube is also a great way to connect with consumers. You don't need a well produced, super fabulous video to have good content but make sure to have a link to your website on your channel.

All of these things, although free, can be time consuming. Once you start a Facebook Page or Twitter account, you need to post regularly to it. Try producing an editorial calendar or creating all your posts for a month in one shot to make sure you are consistent, then post them at regular intervals. There are several free online social media managers like hootsuite that will allow you to schedule tweets and other posts.
